Age Of Stupid now showing

On 15 March BSCG members and committee members were present at the Inverness premiere of the film The Age of Stupid that is showing this week (until 26 March) at Eden Court in Inverness. In it Oscar-nominated actor Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

The Age of Stupid

The inspirational 90 minute film includes shots on location from the Alps, West Africa and Jordan. One of the stars of the film, veteran alpine mountain guide Fernand Pareau, who has climbed Mount Blanc more than 150 times, comments in it : “I think everyone in the future will perhaps blame us for not thinking to protect the environment. We knew how to profit, but not to protect”. With this in mind, when the film becomes available as a DVD in May, the Badenoch and Strathspey Conservation Group is planning early public showings of the film locally. More about this film can be found at www.ageofstupid.net

This timely film comes as the important climate change bill is at a critical stage in the Scottish parliament, and before the vitally important world summit on climate change at Copenhagen in December 2009.
